We're Off & Running

The season is under way!

Thoresby Colliery visited GLA on a fine but typically cool April afternoon. Both sides were keen for some match practice in their first respective outings of the season and a good workout it was for both teams.

Batting first, Calverton got the new electronic scoreboard moving along without to many alarms, Daz Wright & Captain of the day Scott Andrews both posted 20's before they fell. Innings of the day belonged to Ryan Evans hitting an impressive 82, backed up by James Toogood with 35 as Calverton posted a useful 200-6 from 40 overs.

Thoresby replied in similar vein and wickets were hard to come by on the usual batters paradise. It seemed as though Thoresby would ease home comfortably, but a couple of wickets for debutant Nathan Johnston made things interesting. As the 40th over was bowled, it really was getting close, but the first 6 of the game brought the contest to a close with 3 balls remaining.

Two games next weekend see a friendly at home to Thurgarton on Saturday and the first Newark Alliance game on the Sunday away at Notts & Arnold.
